The Latvian airline airBaltic has started an internal
process to rehire 20 former cabin crew.
“More than a year ago we were forced to make tough
decisions, including letting many of our people go. We provided them
with various benefits, including a social package,” said
Martin Gauss, Chief Executive Officer of airBaltic. “Now we are
proud that we are in a position to rehire. We are confident about
our future, and know that soon we will return to our growth path,
which will mean hundreds of new highly skilled job opportunities.”
Since spring 2020, the company has rehired a total
of 73 employees, including 18 cabin crew who were re-hired in
different positions.
The 20 cabin crew will resume their work in
two groups starting from June. They will be selected according to
their motivation, qualification and previous experience.
“All new employees, whose work duties are related
to permanent contact with other people, are required to be
vaccinated ... We have a
5-star COVID19 safety rating, and by the end of May more
than 70% of airBaltic staff will have received their first
COVID19 vaccine,” Gauss added.
airBaltic currently employs 1,100 professionals
from almost 30 nations and operates a fleet of 26 Airbus A220-300
aircraft.
