Qatar Airways has unveiled plans to resume direct
flights to Phuket, Thailand.
The airline will operate four flights per
week, starting 1 July 2021, with Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft
featuring 22 seats in Business Class and 232 in Economy Class.
Flight QR840 is scheduled to depart from Doha
(DOH) at 02:55 and arrive in Phuket (HKT) at 13:30 on Wednesdays,
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
The return flight, QR841, is timed to leave Phuket
at 02:30 and arrive in Doha at 05:30 on Mondays, Thursdays,
Saturdays and Sundays.
The Phuket flights are in addition to Qatar
Airways' 12 weekly flights to Bangkok, Thailand's capital city.
Qatar Airways Group Chief
Executive, Mr
Akbar Al Baker, said,
“We know many of our customers are eager to get back flying and
return to some of their favourite holiday destinations, such as
Phuket. Famed for its many exotic beaches, family friendly
atmosphere, turquoise waters and delicious local cuisine, Phuket
is an ideal destination for a summer getaway. We look forward to
working with our partners in Thailand to support the recovery of
their tourism sector.”
Phuket is hoping to become the first city in
Thailand to welcome vaccinated foreign tourists who have also
tested negative upon arrival
without the need for them to stay in quarantine for 15 nights as
they must still do in other parts of the country. While this may
come into effect on 1 July, it is still far from certain whether
it will go ahead at all. More details of
the initiative are expected in the coming days.
