Korean Air has been recognized by Airbus as the best
A220 operator.
The airline received the “Airbus A220 Best
Operational Excellence 2021” award on 4 October during IATA’s
Annual General Meeting in Boston, USA.
Every two years, Airbus awards the best operators
of its aircraft based on a thorough evaluation of factors such as
flight duration, number of operated flights and punctuality. This
year is the first time Airbus has selected the best operator of
the A220.
From August 2020 to July 2021, Korean Air recorded
an on-time performance of 99.63% for its A220 fleet, compared to
global A220 operators’ average on-time performance of 99%.
On-time performance is an international index that
measures an airline’s flight operational competency. A higher rate
implies maintenance and safety system quality, and is gauged by
measuring the number of flights that depart within 15 minutes of
scheduled departure.
An on-time performance of 99.63% indicates that
there were only 3.7 delays or cancellations caused by maintenance
defects for every 1,000 flights.
A high on-time performance rate
also signifies that an airline is committed to preventive
maintenance measures and safety management, providing high levels
of safety and passenger service.
A total of 174 A220 aircraft are being operated by
11 airlines globally, and Korean Air has been operating a total of
10 A220 aircraft since 2017.
