Patrick Ky, Executive Director of EASA, recently
visited ATR's premises in Singapore as part of an EU-sponsored
project working with authorities in Indonesia to extend the
implementation of Performance Based Navigation (PBN) in the
country.
PBN enables aircraft to fly on a designed flight
path with autopilot engaged turning a visual approach into an
instrumented approach.
ATR is actively promoting the implementation of PBN as
well as th use of on-board and satellite technology
to provide flight safety and operational benefits
in the regions it serves.
Two airfields in Indonesia have already been published (Bajawa and Larantuka) and a third one is in the final stage (Atambua).
ATR's contribution to the Indonesia project
includes providing
ATR Flight Instructors, expertise and the use of its full
flight simulators.
In addition, ATR trainers are working with the
flight instructors of Indonesian airlines as part of a “train the
trainers” initiative.
Stefano Bortoli, ATR CEO, said, “Performance Based
Navigation is a significant flight safety enhancement in addition
to the improved operational performance and fuel burn reductions.
We at ATR are working closely with EASA and other global
authorities to promote its roll-out. Everywhere in the world, our
operators are providing essential connectivity to communities.
Performance Based Navigation ensures that these airlines meet the
highest standards of operational excellence, continually improving
flight safety and sustainability.”
In Indonesia, approaches on two airfields have
already been published (Bajawa
and Larantuka) and a third one is in the final stage (Atambua),
with more approaches expected to be published by the end of 2022
as the cooperation between EASA and Indonesian DGCA continues.
