The Pullman Cairns has appointed Mark Burns as
General Manager.
With over 30 years of hospitality industry

Mark also worked with Starwood for over 19 years, spent almost six years with Mandarin Oriental
and was with The Dorchester in London for close to two years.
In addition to working in numerous cities around
Australia, his international career has thus far taken him to work
in England, Germany, Hong Kong, Thailand, Indonesia, Hawaii and
Macau.
“We are
excited to welcome Mark as General Manager of the Pullman Cairns
International,” said Sarah Derry, CEO of Accor Pacific. “Mark’s experience in the five-star sector and
talent for elegant, upscale makeovers make him the perfect person
to take the helm at this crucial time. He has an incredible
ability to reinvent a hotel in terms of service culture and food
and beverage, and will undoubtedly lead the Pullman team to create
a special guest experience.”
The 16-floor, 321-room Pullman Cairns hotel recently moved into the final phase of a major
refurbishment program which commenced in mid-2021.
Shakespeare
Property Group, the hotel’s owners, made a significant investment in the
hotel as part of its first phase of work
completing a multi-million room rejuvenation earlier this year that extended
across eight floors.
The update introduced a contemporary new
black and white colour palette and distinct Queensland
architectural style to the hotel’s Superior Mountain View Rooms,
Deluxe Harbour View Rooms and Deluxe Family Suite.
The final phase of the rejuvenation will
include a significant investment into its bar and restaurant
offerings.
“Mark is entrusted with delivering
on our vision for the Pullman, and we are confident that under his
direction we can elevate the hotel to become Tropical North
Queensland’s most distinguished destination to stay, indulge and
dine,” said Richard Saab, Shakespeare Property Group Vice
President – Hospitality Assets & Investments.
Shakespeare Property Group, a private Melbourne-based investment
company, currently
has more than AU$1.25 billion worth of commercial property interests
(office, retail and hotel) under management across five Australian
states.
