Delta Orders 20 Airbus A350-1000 Aircraft

(15/01/24) Delta Air Lines has ordered 20 Airbus A350-1000s, a new aircraft type for the airline.

In addition to Boeing aircraft, Delta currently operates more than 450 Airbus jets from all of the company's product families from the A220 to the A350-900, with more than 200 additional planes on order.

Of those, the airline today operates 28 A350-900s and now has an orderbook for 36 next-gen A350 aircraft, bringing the A350 fleet to over 60 by the end of the decade.

“The A350-1000 will be the largest, most capable aircraft in Delta’s fleet and is an important step forward for our international expansion,” said Ed Bastian, Delta’s CEO. “The aircraft complements our fleet and offers an elevated customer experience, with more premium seats and best-in-class amenities, as well as expanded cargo capabilities.”

Delta has ordered 20 Airbus A350-1000s

Powered by Rolls-Royce Trent XWB-97 turbofans, a more powerful variant of the engine that powers the A350-900s, the A350-1000 has a range of up to 9,700nm and can accommodate up to 410 passengers in a standard three-class configuration, with 40% more area for premium-category seating.

The aircraft will primarily be operated on long-haul routes in support of Delta’s international expansion, replacing retiring planes and fueling growth.

The new higher-gauge aircraft will feature about 15% more premium seats than retiring aircraft, including Delta One Suites, Delta Premium Select and Delta Comfort+ in addition to Main Cabin.

They will also offer more than 1,000 hours of free in-flight entertainment from Delta Studio; free, fast in-flight Wi-Fi; and premium food and beverage options.

Deliveries are expected to begin in 2026.
